Summer has come, and with it the holiday mood and the desire to rest and travel. During this part of the year in Bulgaria it is much warmer than Germany and I definitely have experience with hot summers and heavy heat. And it is precisely these high temperatures that I do not miss. I love summer, but not the heat. I definitely prefer the shade, the smell of the sea, the sand in my feet and the sea breeze in my hair this part of the year. And a cocktail wouldn’t hurt me 🙂
Unfortunately, in these times of Corona virus and quarantine, it’s hard to plan a vacation. And I decided! Escape from the heat in a pleasant place, not far from Nuremberg, where there is water, mood and sun and also places for walking and recreation – Lake Chiemsee. Chiemsee is a magic that everyone must discover and feel!
I visited him about a month ago. In short, let me introduce you to a little more information about this calm and inspiring place … It is the largest lake in Bavaria and the third largest freshwater basin in Germany. I admired his beauty. To the south of it are the Alps.
We left Nuremberg early in the morning. We traveled about 2 and a half hours to the lake. It is easily accessible and close to the A8 motorway. It is about an hour’s drive from Munich. We stopped our car in a free car park about a kilometer from the port of Prien am Chiemsee. If you don’t feel like it, you can park your car at the port for a fee. Beauty!!!
Lake Chiemsee is served by ferries that stop at many of the settlements around the lake. And most importantly on the islands of Hernchimsee and Frauensee. When purchasing ferry tickets, everyone receives a map with the sights and the schedule of the ferries and the different ports. In fact, if you plan your time properly, you will have the opportunity to explore the islands, as well as to eat and enjoy the ferry rides with beer in hand. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so. I couldn’t believe how many boats and beaches I saw. The whole lake was sailed and terrified of beach milk.
Our first stop was the island of Hernimsel. There is the Hernchimsee Palace and the Augustinian Monastery. The palace was built in the late 19th century. It was supposed to be a complete copy of the Palace of Versailles (or simply Versailles) – the most significant architectural monument of French absolutism. From an architectural point of view, the Herrenchiemsee Palace is the perfect project – an organized complex, including fabulously beautiful buildings, an amazing park, magnificent fountains, fabulous flower gardens.
I was left with a wash on my face when these beautiful pictures unfolded before me, after a pleasant walk among the trees on the island. I sat in the restaurant in front of the palace and never stopped admiring this place so beautiful and full of spirit. And the old monastery … a place that should also be visited. It is called the “Old Palace” and is in the Baroque style. Ludwig II stayed there while the New Palace was being built.
The ferry boarded again. The thirst was quite great and we couldn’t wait to have a beer and enjoy the summer wind and the walk through the beautiful pond. It was hard for me to keep from melting in the cool water. I was satisfied only with the aroma of water and my bare feet. We passed Fraueninsel. There were so many beachgoers there. There were embankments with sea sand and an infinite number of boats. On the island is the Benedictine convent, founded in 782. Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit it and walk more about it. Maybe next time.
We passed through most of the settlements around the lake. Definitely each of them has its own charm and is individual only for itself. I sat on the deck and watched the reflections of the birds in the blue-green lake waters. Their reflections were visible only here – in the lake where I was. The sun was already setting, and these reflections became more and more voluminous and clearer, as they suddenly disappeared among the branches of the trees. It was like a fairy tale.
We finished our walk again at the port of Prien. Picked up to the car and home. A wonderful day filled with many new experiences, water, sun and love! The waters of the lakes have an ancient memory and carry great power!
